The baby count at the Woodland Park Zoo keeps increasing – as does the cuteness count. This month, the Zoo’s 3-month old quadruplet lion cubs have emerged from the maternity den and will be on view for slowly increasing intervals, starting with 11a – 2p daily (weather conditions may cancel viewings.) Located in the award-winning African Savanna area of the Zoo, the cubs have already gathered many admirers. See more photos from their first days on view at the Zoo blog.
Months ago Tree Kangaroo Elanna gave birth to a joey, but Zoo officials only recently got a glimpse of the reclusive baby as he’s emerges from his mother’s pouch. Joey and mom live in a quiet maternity den, but an all-new web cam currently allows viewing – for a limited time only. These Tree Kangaroos represent a flagship conservation effort of the Zoo in Papua New Guinea, to protect the endangered Matschie tree kangaroo and its forest habitat. Learn more about this effort on-line, and watch the web cam now.
For those youngsters who just can’t get enough of the Zoo – the lion cubs, the joey, or all the amazing animals – consider a Zoo Overnight or Evening Adventure. Starting in March (through November,) youth can sign up for programs that include A Zookeeper’s Life For Me, Stealthy Science: Research After Dark, and Living Wild. Adventures include guided tours in the evening and early morning hours, with the inside scoop on the animals from education staff members. Find out more about sign-ups, and age limits, on the Woodland Park Zoo website.
