Literacy Source Summer Celebration On June 10th
On Monday, June 10th, from 5:30p – 7p, at the Fremont Branch of the Seattle Public Library, Literacy Source welcomes everyone to come celebrate the achievements of outstanding scholars.
Kirby has been in Fremont for a lifetime, as a resident, employee, employer, and playmate. She's served on the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, the Fremont Neighborhood Council and the Fremont Arts Council, and can be seen wandering the Center of the Universe year 'round. When it comes to Fremont, she likes to say she's full of it!

This Friday, June 7th, the Annual Fremont Fun Run & Briefcase Relay will race east on N 34th Street from Solstice Plaza, starting at 6p. Before and after the race, from 6p – 9p, take a more leisurely stroll through the Center of the Universe to view, for free, an amazing assortment of art, and art venues, during the First Friday Fremont Art Walk.
This annual opportunity for the students at Fremont’s only public school – B.F. Day Elementary – to show what they’ve learned about entrepreneurship and the free market system takes place at the school on Friday, June 7th, from 1p – 2:50p.
The 5th Annual Celebration of the Wallingford Boys & Girls Club (WBGC) will take place on Friday, June 7th, from 6p – 9p, at the 45th Street main club. Come celebrate the staff and members of the WBGC, including those at its off-site facilities at B.F. Day, Sacajawea, Olympic Hills, Bagley, and View Ridge.
On Saturday, June 8th, at 2pm, History House of Greater Seattle will host a public open house for the Discovery Modelers Education Center (DMEC) celebrating, and detailing, their work. Come aboard this informative and entertaining discussion of nautical history and craftsmanship.
For the first show of the ‘Music In The Sculpture Garden’ concert series, on June 2nd at 2p, enjoy the Appalachian Americana music of Murphy & Middaugh, and a singer-songwriter plus experience with Moore of Beck ‘N Kayser, the trio of Steff Kayser, Steve Beck and Jim Moore.
Thank you to everyone who turned out for the second Fremont Fireside Chat, held May 25th at History House, most especially our special guest, Maque da Vis, who enthralled the small audience with his story of volunteerism and parade. da Vis gave his personal history with Fremont, and the Fremont Arts Council – in between working on the 25th Solstice Parade coming June 22nd at 3p.
Sunday, June 2nd, will be the Fremont BBQ Extravaganza featuring a PNWBA sanctioned BBQ competition, live music, beverages, samples, a bagel ring toss, mini-pancake eating contest, and a costumed dog parade.
On this Memorial Day, 2013, it is important to express gratitude to those who have lost their lives – and sympathy to family and friends who have lost someone – while fighting for, and maintaining, our freedom.
On Saturday, June 1st, at 11a, the City of Seattle will officially give the honorary name of ‘J.P. Patches Place’ to a portion of one of Fremont’s most traveled streets – N 34th St.
