The Fremont Street Fair is coming over the weekend of June 22nd & 23rd, with live music, lots of shopping, delicious eats and plenty of beer garden opportunities. Yet, the Fair also serves as a framework into which our community inserts even more of its art – specifically Seattle Art Cars and the Fremont Solstice Parade.
The neighborhood of Fremont is represented by two City Council seats. Those who live west of Aurora Avenue (Highway 99) vote in District #6, and those voters to the east vote in District #4, along with residents in Wedgewood, Wallingford, Laurelhurst, U-District, and Ravenna.
On the West of Lenin stage June 6th – 30th, A.J. Epstein presents ‘The Agitators’ by Mat Smith. This new play, set between 1849 and 1895, explores the decades-long, sometimes adversarial relationship between Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony.
According to sources at the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, the Fremont 5K Fun Run & Briefcase Relay won’t be happening this year. No reason has been given, so far, by Pro-Motion Events, the organizer since 1991.
The month of June is a month of celebration in Fremont, and the Fremont First Friday (FFF) Art Walk is a great kick-off to all our festivities! On Friday, June 7th, from 6p – 9p, stroll the Center of the Universe for a look at original art, and Fremont Fair posters, and a fundraiser for the Fremont Solstice Parade!
On July 13th, the Washington Distillers’ Festival, PROOF, returns to Fremont. This flagship tasting event showcases the best of Washington State’s leading, independent distillers – all at Fremont Studios.
On Sunday, June 16th, from 1p – 3p, the Ballard-Fremont Greenways is participating in ‘The Ride for Safe Streets’, formerly called ‘The 1000-Person Bike March.’ Starting the same morning, June 16th, at 11a, a family-friendly, kid-focused ride will kick-off from the Fremont PCC Market.
On Saturday, June 8th, at Nectar Lounge, Clinton Fearon will be celebrating the release of a new EP, entitled ‘Time’.
On Friday, May 31st, at 6p, many of Simon Neale’s friends and fans will gather for a potluck Memorial at Hale’s Palladium. Everyone is welcome to join in this celebration of the life of one of Fremont’s long-time contributors.
