On Thursday, October 11th, 2012, the City of Seattle installed the first counter of bicycle traffic crossing the Fremont Bridge.
At the next Fremont Arts Council (FAC) Committee Of the Whole (COW) meeting, on Tuesday, October 9th starting at 7:10p-ish, Maque da Vis will give a half-hour presentation on the ‘History of Trolloween: 20 Years In the Making.’
Steel and concrete work has finished on the State Route 99 George Washington Memorial Bridge, a.k.a. the Aurora Bridge, and repairs to three specially designed expansion joints (see a photo on Flickr) has nearly done. All the current seismic repairs, begun in June 2011, has better prepared the structure in the event of an earthquake. Between Oct. 1st and Oct. 15th, 2012, crews will close lanes both day and night to chip out the expansion joints and add new bearings and new wedges underneath the joints.
Over the last two weeks Jessica Randall, and a scant few volunteers, have been hard at work cleaning up, and doing minor repairs, on the SPACE art installation at 600 N 36th St. Randall contacted Fremocentrist.com to inform readers that life has been found in SPACE, as the once blue – now pearl-ized – planet has cracked open to reveal a secret worthy of SPACE-exploration.
The ‘Fremont: Timber To Troll’ history project being compiled currently at History House of Greater Seattle continues to gather materials from Fremonsters of all times, talents and temperaments. The final presentation of the student’s projects, the DVD and a possible art display has been rescheduled for November 17th to get more people, and their contributions, involved.
Word on the street is that the Seattle Office of the Mayor is consulting with Fremont property and business owners along one block of North 34th Street – between Fremont Ave N and Troll Ave N – about giving that stretch an honorary name in memory of Seattle’s favorite clown, J.P. Patches.
A locally produced documentary, on the history of the Fremont Arts Council, the Fremont Troll and installation of public art, will have a second screening on August 26th at 6p at the Doric Lodge #92. This screening is specifically for those who want to stay after and offer constructive opinions during an optional Q & A session.
It’s time to spiff up the SPACE art installation, at N 36th St & Evanston Ave N. The Fremont Chamber of Commerce and the Fremont Arts Council have both contributed money for equipment and materials – all that is needed now is the people-power! On Wednesday, August 1st, at 7p, at Hale’s Palladium, the Fremont community is invited to a special free screening of the documentary ‘The Hall Of Giants’, presented by Anarky Productions. This feature-length documentary, directed by Michael Falcone, gives the background about the creation and mythology about the fabulous, and much beloved, Fremont Troll sculpture.
