On Saturday, Set Clocks Back – and Check Your Batteries & CFLs

This is a good time to test the smoke detectors, at home and work, and change out the batteries. Batteries can fail any time, and a smoke detector is not the place to store dead batteries. This is also a good time, Seattle Public Utilities suggests, to replace burned-out light bulbs with energy-efficient CFL light bulbs.

Fremont Bridge Repainting Project Update

Hopefully you’ve had a chance to enjoy the sight of the new bright paint on parts of the Fremont Bridge. The contractor has been cleaning and covering the faded bridge with shiny blue-and-orange, on the north bascule/leaf. However, according to Art Brochet of the Seattle Department of Transportation, the work has been delayed occasionally by heavy rains, high winds, or just bad forecasts.

City Seeks Artists for Solar Artwork Installations

The Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, in partnership with Seattle City Light and its Renewable Energy Program, currently is seeking three artists (or artist teams) for two separate art installations incorporating solar power. The deadline for applications is Wednesday, November 5th at 11p.

Latest Westlake Cycle Track Open House On October 22nd

On Wednesday, October 22nd, from 5:30p – 8p, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will share the latest results from work done among those who work, live and commute through the Westlake Avenue corridor. The new ‘sidewalk alignment’ plan, for the Westlake Cycle Track, will be shared at Fremont Studios.
