Upcoming Closures of SR99/Aurora Avenue South Of Fremont

Routine closures of SR99/Aurora Avenue have begun, largely due to the construction of a tunnel to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct. While happening south of Fremont, these closures could significantly impact traffic here well beyond simply disrupting the traffic patterns of Fremont drivers.

Crucial Public Hearing To Be Held Regarding Stone34 Future

The development of property near the foot of Stone Way into an office/retail building attaining unprecedented sustainability remains in question as the Seattle City Council decides on proposed changes to the Living Building Pilot Program (LBPP.) On Monday, July 9th, at 5:30p, the Council Land Use, Planning & Sustainability Committee will hear comments from the public on these changes – and be asked to make decisions that will decide if plans for Stone34 can continue.

Please Participate In Two Upcoming Design Review Meetings

On Monday, April 30th, everyone interested in the future of Fremont – and particularly the Stone Way portion – is strongly encouraged (by both the Fremont Neighborhood Council and the Fremont Chamber of Commerce) to attend a Design Review Board Meeting scheduled for 8p at the University Heights Community Center. This will be another follow-up on the proposed 34Stone development, a Skanska mixed-use building currently slated as, in part, the new headquarters for Brooks Sports, and being built to the Living Building Pilot Program standards.

Demolition To Start On The Beleaguered Thunderbird Motel

On Friday, February 24th, Catholic Housing Services (CHS) will move closer to building a 71-unit affordable housing building. Abatement work has been underway, and should finish by the 24th. Once completed, it will be safe for contractors to demolish the structure of the once infamous Thunderbird Motel.
