Kvichak Marine Awarded Long Beach Transit Contract

The Aqualink, built by Kvichak Marine Industries (of Fremont) and designed by Incat Crowther (of Australia), has been in operation by Long Beach Transit (of California) since 2001. The reliability of the catamaran and the success of the water taxi program has resulted in a request by Long Beach Transit for Kvichak to build a second boat.

After The Kids Get Theirs

Plenty of family fun going on in Fremont this holiday season, with shows at Stone Soup (A Child’s Christmas In Wales), Hale’s Palladium (Red Riding Hood & The 3 Little Pigs), and the Dance Fremont performance of Steadfast Tin Soldier going on this weekend. Yet, there will also be a special something-something for the adults among us.

Chamber Chat Overheard At Costas

The Fremont Chamber of Commerce general meeting for November, held on the 17th, at Costas Opa contained a lot of food for thought – as well as a lot of good food. Three particular announcements dispelled rumors recently floating around the ‘hood – and proved each rumor, in this instance, to be true.

Pie Rumors True – And Sound Delicious!

Jessamy Whitsitt and Renee Steen will open their new shop, simply called Pie, sometime in mid-December. “Our goal is definately before Christmas,” Whitsitt insisted during a phone interview today. The shop will be located in what was, up until recently, half of Frame-Up Studios (3515 Fremont Ave N) – but is a separate business, and will not replace one of Fremont’s most beloved retailers.

Chamber Discusses Liquor Initiatives

For the October 2010 general membership meeting, the Fremont Chamber of Commerce hosted a very informative meeting on Liquor Initiatives #1100 and #1105 – up for vote in the November election. Two local, and well-respected, business owners gave their perspectives – Pete Hanning, co-owner of Red Door and president of the Seattle Nightlife & Music Association, and Matt Lincecum, owner of Fremont Brewing Company who worked previously as a lawyer with a specialty in Liquor Licensing.

Kvichak To Build Five More Boats for U.S. Navy

Kvichak Marine Industries, located in West Fremont (at 469 N.W. Bowdoin Pl), recently announced that they’ve been awarded a contract to build five more Marine Preposition Force (MPF) utility boats for the United States Navy. This follows Kvichak’s successful delivery of 26 vessels to them since February 2006.

Bye-Bye Buckaroo!

At the Fremont Neighborhood Council meeting on July 26, 2010, neighbors of the Buckaroo Tavern reported that the landlords of the landmark bar have not renewed the lease. The Buckaroo Tavern will close after ’72 years of beers at the Buck’ to be replaced by a ‘Spirits-Wine-Beer Restaurant’ according to the license application now posted on the building.
