Historic Mt. Rainier Climb Launched From Fremont

In July, the Silence-Heart-Nest staff hosted Nimdoma Sherpa, of the Kingdom of Nepal. Nimdoma holds the record as the youngest woman ever to climb Mt. Everest. She climbed at age 16, celebrated her birthday on the mountain and summited at age 17. Now age 19, Nimdoma, the youngest woman ever to be on top of the world, has completed a mountain-climbing world tour including Mt. Rainier.

Container Class on August 6th at Urban Earth Nursery

On Saturday, August 6th, at 1p, get help cleaning up those plant containers to take them from late summer into fall. A FREE class at Urban Earth Nursery, with local garden coach and designer Kathy Boullin, will demonstrate how to jazz up those spring containers, for shade or sun locations.

First Community Work Party for the Fremont Wetlands Trail Park

Saturday, May 14th, from Noon – 4p, will be the first volunteer community party for the Fremont Wetland Trail Park. Come out and help other Fremonsters – and anyone with a will to hike and explore nature in the middle of Seattle – clean up and start creating a community-based green space, just south of the Fremont Bridge.

Edible Container Class at Urban Earth This Sunday

On Sunday, April 17th, at 1p, learn how to grow what you eat in flexible, portable and versatile containers. At Urban Earth(1051 N 35th St), Garden Consultant Maia Eisen will teach attendees how to create a container garden that is beautiful as well as edible. For those with no yard space, or those who simply want to expand their options.

Help Replant the Ship Canal Shores of Fremont

On Friday, November 19th, from 10a – 2p, volunteers are needed to help the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plant hundreds of plants along the north side of the Lake Washington Ship Canal. All tools will be provided, and no experience is necessary. Volunteers can meet at the Dinosaur Topiaries on the Burke-Gilman Trail (at North 34th St and Phinney Avenue North.)
